Regeneration

Good News! You don’t have to compromise on your health or your smile. We specialize in advanced techniques that not only restore the health of your gums but also restore maximum confidence. Your gums are the framework for a healthy, beautiful smile.

Gum grafts come in many forms, but they usually involve the moving gum tissue from one area of the mouth to another. This can be done to protect the root surfaces from decay, to prevent additional gum recession or to make the gums stronger around teeth. We find that we can address most concerns using two types of gum graft procedures:

Free Gingival & Connective Tissue Grafts

Both procedures usually involve taking a small piece of gum tissue from the roof of the mouth or from a donor tissue bank. The tissue is then placed outside the gums, below the gum recession, or under the gum tissue, in a connective tissue graft. These procedures create thicker, stronger gums. Depending on the type of graft, it may not cover the exposed root, but it can allow the gumline to move back on its own, closer to where it belongs. We have also found that we can use sites other than the roof of the mouth to obtain the needed gum tissue, greatly reducing or eliminating post-surgical soreness.

Toothbrushing methods following this procedure must be gentle. As gum recession becomes more severe, the ability to use these grafting procedures decreases and it can result in the need for a two-step grafting procedure, which is usually not as cosmetically pleasing.
